Day 56: The Closest I've Come to Time Travel

Day 56: The Closest I've Come to Time Travel

First of all, let me apologize about the last twenty-four hours (?) of this blog. The lines of today and tomorrow got very blurred during my plane ride from Auckland to Los Angeles, which involved me crossing the international date line. LA is nineteen hours behind Auckland, so even though my flight left at 9pm on August 5th, I arrived in Los Angeles at 4pm on August 5th. Rather than time passing, it's like I actually went back in time. Weird.

Aside from that though, I am in Los Angeles, back in the United States. I am finally seeing some friends that I haven't seen in a long time. Even staying on one of their couches. It's a great way to sort of ease myself into coming home. Rather than just going from being on my own to back home, I get to see friends, but still be far from home.

The friends I have here in LA went to college with me. They have aspirations to work in film and television, and thus were drawn out to this city during their final year of school. As I have yet to visit them, I thought why not add this stop to my trip. I get to see my friends and see a huge city that I've never been able to explore.

I did however severely underestimate the size of this city. To get from the airport to my friends apartment took nearly an hour and a half. After a twelve hour plane ride, this was particularly difficult. But I took the opportunity to take a few quick naps between staring out the window at the passing city.

Tonight I mostly hung out with my friends, we went out for dinner, and watched a great TV show that I only just heard of today. It's called Stranger Things and I highly recommend it. It's a Netflix original.

I'm not entirely sure what tomorrow holds, but I trust something interesting will come up, and I'll get the chance to see a part of this city that I've never seen. Which is pretty much all of it.

Today's post is slightly short, mainly because I am tired from a full day of travel, and a fun night of seeing some good friends. I'll definitely be back on a more daily schedule from here on out.

Thanks for reading and here's to tomorrow.

P.S. The thumbnail is a portrait of a Hobbit from the Green Dragon in Hobbiton. I don't really have any pictures from today, so it will have to do. And I think it does great.
